Russia occupies 40th position in Doing Business-2017 rating
MOSCOW, Oct 25 (PRIME) -- Russia has been ranked 40th out of 190 countries in the World Bank and International Financial Corporation’s Doing Business-2017 rating, as seen by PRIME on Tuesday in a report.
Valentina Saltane, a co-author of the report, told PRIME that the previous year’s Doing Business rating is now irrelevant as Somalia was included into it and some changes were introduced into the indicators.
“We are doing recalculations of data for the previous year due to different changes in indicators, and we also introduced another country, so last year’s rating is irrelevant. After the recalculation, Russia’s last year rating is 36, and this year’s rating is 40,” Saltane said.
This year Russia has become one of the European and Central Asian countries, which did most reforms, including simplifying the procedure for issuing construction permits. The reform has put Russia on the 115th place by the indicator, she said.
But reform on ensuring implementation of contracts, which introduced mandatory pre-court settlement of disputes, had a negative impact, she said.
Regarding the taxation sector, including the procedure of tax audit and the return of value-added tax, Russia and other countries of Europe and Central Asia showed good results as they use electronic systems and up-to-date practices for that. “Russia’s position in taxation is 45th,” Saltane added.
